GEORGE TOWN: A coalition of non-government organisations has demanded Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to resign temporarily to enable the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate alleged malpractices against him.
The NGOs' spokesman, Rahmad Isahak claimed two alleged malpractices - the coupon parking system fiasco and illegal hill clearing in Bukit Relau - had marred the DAP-led state administration.
Rahmad, who is also Penang Malay Congres president, had lodged a report with the commission on the matter on April 25.
"We want Lim to resign as chief minister until the MACC completes its investigations.
"As the chief minister, he is indirectly responsible for the malpractices. He needs to show the credibility of his state administration and he must step down temporarily," he said in a joint press conference here today.
Rahmad also urged MACC to probe the administration's machinery without fear and favour.
Meanwhile, president of Pertubuhan Minda & Social Prihatin Ramesh Rao AKS recommended Deputy Chief Minister II P.Ramasamy to take up the position as acting chief minister when Lim resigns temporarily.
