Three Shortlisted

GEORGE TOWN: Penang MCA has shortlisted three candidates from the party, but remain coy on whether the party will be contesting in the upcoming Bukit Gelugor by-election.

Without revealing who the candidates are, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said party leadership will discuss it internally with BN chairman before they make any further decision.

"I will constantly discuss with BN chairman regarding the by-election and will update him continuously what I have been told by the grassroots leaders here concerning the situation, especially the strength and capabilities of the party in facing the by-election," said Liow.

When pressed on when the names of the candidates will be announced, Liow told reporters that there are still plenty of time before the by-election.

"We still have plenty of time...what's the hurry, even DAP has not announced their candidates yet.

"Don't worry, when the time comes, we will make the decision," said Liow.

He added that the party will use different strategies than that of the Kajang by-election.

Meanwhile, Liow also brushed off allegation in the social media alleging that he agreed to swap seat with Gerakan in the Teluk Intan by-election.

"The assumption that I have agreed to swap seat with Gerakan is totally unfounded, and i believe it was made to spin my statement. There is no swapping of seat between MCA and Gerakan.

"Bukit Gelugor will remain to be MCA seat and so does Teluk Intan with Gerakan," said Liow in a press conference after a closed-door meeting with state MCA leaders and and Chinese associations at the Penang Chinese Town hall near here.
