Press Statement by Datuk Huan Cheng Guan
IN the face of adversity, genuine friends and loyal supporters readily vocalise support for their leaders, but self-serving ones switch camps when the going gets tough.
The recent outpouring of support from various quarters including Umno members, Cuepacs, BN coalition partners and ordinary citizens, clearly shows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak enjoys consistent support resonating through different levels of hierarchy.
PCM declares unwavering support for Najib for his steadfast leadership. A composed and courteous politician, Najib consistently refrains from making populist statements and seldom ever reacts to negative statements, even in the eye of the storm.
He prefers preserving unity and harmony and working towards the development of the nation rather than defending himself to individuals who relentlessly work to oust him from his position.
When the Prime Minister kept quiet in the face of verbal attacks, detractors went to town condemning him. When he gave his views over television, local and international media increased their onslaught, no mercy shown.
Foolishly, Malaysians interpret his composure as a weakness, rather than as an admirable strength of character. It takes maturity and inner strength to exercise self-control than to vent anger and frustration publicly or to retaliate maliciously.
When ruled by a Machiavellian leader, Malaysians are not happy. When the leader treads carefully, they are still not happy. Hence, the problem is NOT the Prime Minister but the mindset of Malaysians who have fallen prey to virulent propaganda to oust our Prime Minister.
The cultivated hatred for our Prime Minister has festered into a cancer tumour until anything that he does or says has little effect.
Many have been brainwashed to think the nation’s problems can be resolved only if Najib steps down. They ignorantly think only then can Malaysia miraculously turn into an enchanted country that flows with milk and honey.
Politics is not like a fairy tale because as expounded by the Prime Minister recently, “the direction of the country is not determined by any individual, but by the people and the party”.
Previously, warlords and leaders ruled by intimidating opponents to conform via fear. At present, Najib has won immense support because as a leader, he is more genuine, listening to and engaging BN leaders in decision making instead of forcing his will on others.
In such an open environment, it is no wonder that many in various quarters respect him and have faith in his leadership.
PCM has the highest respect for Najib because he has steered our country to commendable heights of economic performance. For example, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Malaysia expanded 2% in the fourth quarter of 2014 over the previous quarter.
From 2000 until 2014, Malaysia’s GDP Growth Rate averaged 1.28%, reaching an all time high of 5.9% in the third quarter of 2009 from a record low of -7.6% in the first quarter of 2009.
Instead of brickbats, Najib should receive accolades because the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) recently declared that Malaysia registered the 208th consecutive month of trade surplus in February 2015, with a value of RM4.52bil.
Last month, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong confirmed the Malaysian economy was stable despite the national debt-to-gross domestic product (GDP) ratio being over 50%.
Inflation is at 3.2%, unemployment rate is still at a low level, and international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia as at February 27, 2015 of RM386 billion are still high and positive.
In September 2014, Moody’s Investor Service profiled Malaysia’s economic strength as “high+”, institutional strength “high”, fiscal strength “high-” and susceptibility to event risk “low”.
Despite such achievements, and Najib’s firm resolve to continue BR1M for the benefit of the poorer population, many choose to show the lack of respect and regard for our Prime Minister.
Such behaviour is unfair but a national disgrace.
Let us affirm our support for our Prime Minister instead of running down the country at every opportunity and pinning the blame on him.
Delusional, unpatriotic, or ungrateful actions that work against the betterment of Malaysia are akin to treacherous acts of traitors.
Common sense is needed, not prejudiced, and biased perspectives. When the going gets tough, we see Najib getting tougher instead of bowing to unreasonable pressure.
Together with other supporters, I affirm my faith in Najib’s leadership to lead Malaysia on course beyond past achievements and to play our parts in building the Malaysia we all love.
Let us continue our journey to a better Malaysia, by giving Najib and his Cabinet our unquestionable support.
A united nation will never be divided.
